I love my iPad for a variety of reasons. Checking email, staying up-to-date on social media, checking out my favorite blogs, games, and of course the fact that it is extremely portable, which allows me to take it everywhere I go. And as a mom of 3, I definitely appreciate games that can help entertain, as well as, educate my kids, especially at doctor appointments, in the car, or just when I’m making dinner!.

I recently reviewed Pluto Learns Piano HD  by Pluto Games, which is a FREE app on iPad that helps kids learn music. I was surprised at how simple, yet addicting this game is! My 6 year old and 3 year old boys helped review the app and we had fun trying to beat each other’s score. The game is simple enough that my 3 year old enjoyed playing (especially since he loved Penguins), while providing enough entertainment that my oldest did not want to stop playing. The game kept both of my boys busy for a while as they took turns playing.

How to Play:
Players easily move Pluto the Penguin with the touch of their finger. The goal is to have Pluto “eat” the correct musical notes (fish) to play a song. Classic children’s songs are in the app, like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but I also was glad to see a few holiday selections, as well as classic works by Tchaikovsky and Bach. Of course, like many games, there are obstacles that Pluto must pass, such as rocks, other sea life, and the wrong musical fish (notes). As you master each song, you are awarded stars. These stars help unlock more songs for Pluto to navigate through. Parents can pay to unlock songs, as well, but you don’t need to, if you gain enough stars.

As a mom, I liked that this game was not only fun, and entertaining, but that it also was educational. Without even knowing my boys were learning musical notes, and ultimately how to play these songs on a piano keyboard. Plus, I really like that the game is FREE.  If you already have an iPad and are a parent, I recommend that you check out Pluto Learns Piano HD – it is FREE and will help to entertain, while educating,  your kiddos!

Every year as a kid I went to summer camp & my mom would always take the time to go through all of the stuff I packed to try to find some place to write my name on my belongings. I remember her with her marker trying to write my initials anywhere they would fit. Usually, it was on the white tag and the marker would spread & in the end, you could barely read what it said. Electronic devices for kids are a hot holiday item so I was excited to try out the Vtech MobiGo system. I also have a 3 year old that is just starting to get interested in games, so this was perfect because not only does it encourage learning, but also development of dexterity skills.

Some of the games were touch-based, which was much easier for my 3 year old to play with (he is already used to playing with my iPhone, so this was very similar for him). Other games are based on a keyboard, which my 6 year old really liked. I was glad to see there are games that focus on developing spelling, grammar, mathematics, and problem solving.

This is a great holiday gift since it helps to entertain the kids, while helping them learn! There are many different games, too, so you can pick your child’s favorite character. My 3 year old loves Mickey right now, so that is his pick!

Unfortunately, cold and flu season is here – and it is no surprise that this coincides with the busiest travel season, too. Not only does that disrupt vacations, but it also leads to missed days from work and school for children. According to the Walgreens Flu Impact Report:

• 100 million work days lost due to flu-related illness last season, resulting in $6.8 billion in lost wages
• One-third of respondents spent between $251 and $1,000 treating the flu last season
• 32 million school days were missed due to flu last season, which also translates to missed work days and other challenges
• Last flu season… Over 1 million weddings were missed, more than 3 million vacations were canceled or interrupted, almost 5 million holiday celebrations were missed

Here are some tips to help avoid catching or spreading the flu, from Walgreens Pharmacist Stacia Woodcock:

• The CDC recommends that everyone over the age of 6 months get a flu shot every year as the best protection – it takes 2 weeks to build up immunity after the shot
• Stay home when sick and you should be fever-free for at least 24 hours before returning to work or school.
• Avoid sharing food, utensils, cups, or bottles. Cover your cough with a tissue and throw away after use. Carry hand sanitizer with you. Use it often during the day and always after touching your face.
• Cough into your sleeve if a tissue is not available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• You can be contagious up to 3 days before you have symptoms of the flu, so make sure you practice these tips throughout flu season, not only when you are feeling sick.

Cars 2 is a hit in my house, as I’m sure it is for a lot of you! RIDEMAKERZ has a new line of Disney Cars 2 that includes World Grand Prix Lightning McQueen , Hot Rod Lightning McQueen , Mater or Finn McMissile . Kids get to not only build their favorite character, they can customize it and interchange parts with the other cars!

My boys each received their own Cars 2 Ridemakerz, which were a hit! They had fun building their cars, switching out parts, taking it a part, and building again. I’ve mentioned before how much my boys love HEXBUG. So what’s so amazing about this “bug”?  If you haven’t seen them yet, these robotic creatures actually behave like real bugs. Each Hexbug Nano comes in its own tube, ready to go with batteries.

These robotic bugs use vibration to propel itself and explore, which also make the Hexbug Nano habitats or Race Track so much fun. These come in a variety of colors – and really boys and girls can enjoy these fun little creatures. I will admit though, that I’m not as fond of the brown hexbug since it really looks like a bug when it is moving around! My son thinks this is hysterical to scare mommy.

We reviewed the HEXBUG Nano Bridge Battle Habitat Set, which was perfect for my boys since they could let their Nanos “duel it out”. This set (like all the other habitats) comes with Nanos so you can start playing right away. In this set, the Nanos enter the arena through one-way gates and battle against one another until only one remains (or until the older brother knocks his younger brother’s off!)

There are other HEXBUGs available too, like the Hexbug Ant,  Hexbug Larva, Hexbug Crab, and the  Hexbug Spider (a very fun creature that moves with a remote control!)

My 6 month old is the perfect age for this holiday season! I love looking at all the fun toys available, especially toys that will hold her attention for more than a few months. That is why I was excited to get the VTech 2-in-1 Discovery Table because it has multiple features to entertain children up to around 3 years.

One side is an electronic learning center and has multiple activities like a piano, book, gears, and shape buttons. My daughter is a little young to appreciate it all – but within a few months I know she will be loving it. She was already playing with the piano and laughing at the lights and sounds.

The 2nd side of the Discovery Table is a drawing table that allows children to sit and doodle away – my 3 year old enjoyed this side because he was able to sit and draw with his crayons. He was more interested with this side of the table, although he did like the gears on the first side!

The table is easy to rotate from side 1 to side 2. This is a toy that will last for several years as my baby grows into a toddler, which makes it a perfect holiday gift!
