Tips to Find the Best Shopping Deals All YearShopping for holiday deals year-round is the key to finding great gifts, saving lots of money and maintaining your tenuous sanity. Throughout the year, retailers offer great deals that frequently rival the savings to be had on the traditional shopping day, Black Friday.

Regardless of the holiday following those celebrations, most stores from Macy’s to Walmart and Target typically slash prices dramatically with prices falling by as much as 50 percent the day after and upwards of 90 percent off items a week after the holiday.

We have been conditioned to start thinking about shopping on Black Friday, but for the savvy consumer there are always deals percolating, which you can take advantage of once you know when the deals are being offered. As a general rule, it is always good to think seasonally when you’re casting about for great gifts at affordable prices.

The best time to buy an item is when it’s not on anybody’s radar. For instance, the dead of winter is a great time to start shopping for air conditioners, gas grills and patio furniture. January is particularly well-known for good deals on bicycles and sporting good items, as well as being the perfect time to look at carpeting, digital cameras, and bedding and linen. February is noted for excellent deals on tools, in preparation for Father’s Day in June. For those with the will power to hold their sweet tooth at bay, the day after Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to stock up on those favorite chocolate items. Finally, as winter winds down, March is noted for its deals on luggage, boots and winter wear, so if you have a world traveler on your Christmas shopping list or you have an inveterate skier to buy for, now is the time to keep your eyes open.

Once you find out how many deals are available in spring, you may want to do your spring cleaning just to make room in your home and garage for the new springtime offerings. April signals the time to shop for fabulous deals on televisions, laptops, car accessories, cookware and vacuum cleaners. The deals on vacuum cleaners and cookware continue into May, which also features savings on last year’s models of patio furniture, bottled water and party supplies. June marks the opportunity to take advantage of Father’s Day savings on tools, and since summer is just around the corner consumers also see a spike in gym membership deals.

Summer sales begin to heat up towards the end of the season, but July and August are noted for bring the best time to hunt for deals on furniture and laptops. September is the time to start looking to replace that old lawn mower for next year, and a popular time to shop for cars, decent wine and more laptops.

Wedding dresses, car accessories and HDTV home theater systems are all on the list for October, November and December deals. Additional savings also can be found in November on candy, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, canned goods, heating devices, sweet potatoes, toys and winter clothes. In addition, party foods, baking goods and gift items move well during this time period.

Don’t forget that the day after the holidays will give you great deals, too, so you can stock up on new decorations, costumes, wrapping paper and more. Some of my favorite stores to check after Halloween and Christmas include Walgreens, Target, Walmart, and local grocery stores (for decorations).
