How to Make Homemade Bubble Solution

Making your own bubbles couldn’t be easier and since my kids LOVE bubbles, this is truly a good thing because with just a few simple ingredients we can make homemade bubble solution and enjoy hours of fun. This is perfect for the summer months or really any time you want to create a fun project with the kids.

Not only is this a fun activity, but it is also a great activity for kids that are in speech therapy because it can help to strengthen their mouth muscles. Why not have fun while you are learning! :)

Homemade Bubble Solution Recipes I tried

I have heard conflicting stories about if using sugar or glycerin in your bubble solution will create better bubbles, so I had to try both to see if I noticed any differences.

Sugar Solution

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup liquid dish detergent

Glycerin Solution

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup liquid dish detergent
  • 5 drops glycerin

I just used recycled water bottles to make our solution, but you can use any container that you want. If you have a large bubble wand, try putting the solution in a pan or cookie sheet. My liquid dish detergent was green (as you can see), so our bubble solution was green, but if you don’t have a color or want something different, you could add a drop of food coloring.

The benefit to using the sugar mixture is that you most likely have the ingredients in your home already. Glycerin is easy to find at at health food stores or online if you prefer that solution.

My boys and I tried both solutions and didn’t find a huge difference between the two. Both were easy to make, fun to use, and we were able to make plenty of bubbles with our homemade bubble solution! Make the most of the rest of the summer and enjoy blowing bubbles together!

I never thought to use sugar in a solution before. I wonder how it alters the solution for bigger bubbles. Will have to try this solution next time!

Cool! I’ve never tried to make bubble solution, but this looks easy enough. I may even run to the health food store to see if they have glycerin. Thanks for sharing!

My mom used to make us homemade bubble solution when my brother and I were kids. You’re right, it is so easy. Maybe I should give it a go.
