oz the great and powerful

Disney’s new movie, “Oz the Great and Powerful” opens today, March 8, 2013.  I took my son to see the preview of this movie on Tuesday night, and we were very impressed.  We saw it in 3D, which in my opinion, makes most every movie better.  This was no exception.  The colors and the cinematography were really enhanced with the 3D.  James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams star in this movie.  That seems like a pretty good line up, but I actually thought that the casting choice was a little off.

Directed by Sam Raimi, this movie follows Oscar Diggs (Franco), an illusionist,  who lands in Oz after a wild ride in a tornado.  The people of Oz believe him to be the promised wizard who will save their land from the evil rule of Evanora (Weisz).  With the help of Glinda the Good (Williams), Oscar faces his own doubts about himself as he rises to challenge of fighting evil.

This movie was definitely entertaining and quite an experience to see in the theater as well as in 3D, but I would not recommend it for younger children.  My son is eleven and he jumped quite a bit.  The witches would be pretty frightening for younger children, but if you have older children, this would be a fun one to see!
