strawesomeI’ll admit it – I LOVE straws. Yes, I am one of those people that likes to drink everything (well, except my hot coffee) with a straw, so when I heard about Strawesome, I was very intrigued! Strawesome makes reusable drinking straws made of glass. Each straw is hand-made by this family-owned company and they offer a wide variety of types and styles of straws.

imageSo why use a glass straw? They have 10 reasons listed on their website – but here are a few that really hit home for me:

  • Glass drinking straws are one way to limit your exposure to toxins from plastics because they are toxin-free! No BPAs, phthalates, etc.
  • Think about all the plastic straws you throw in the landfill each year. Replacing your disposable plastic straws with a glass straw is one little thing you can do to help save our planet.
  • Make it fun with a green smoothie and a glass straw.
Note: I have actually been making a green smoothie every day this week and seriously love using the glass straw with it – it does make it fun and I think taste better!
  • According to speech therapists, glass straws help kids with oral development making it easier for them to learn to articulate and pronounce words. (I can definitely understand this one, too, since I know straws are good for speech therapy, and by having a glass straw, it helps keep the straw shape to encourage those oral development skills.)

A few other things that I really like about these glass straws – they are made of borosilicate glass tubing, which is the strongest commercially available glass (same glass that Pyrex is made from). The glass is non-toxic, and comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee and lifetime guarantee against breakage (if you break one, they will replace it!). How cool is that?

There are many different kinds of straws to choose from – but luckily they do have a buying guide to help you figure out what would be best for your family.
