Arizona Booster Seat Law

For those of you in Arizona, most of you have probably heard about the new Arizona Booster Seat Law that is taking effect on August 2, 2012. All children under the age of 8 ( 4 foot 9 inches) or  will now be required to ride in a booster seat.

Did you know that in Arizona, motor vehicle collisions are the most common cause of preventable deaths in children? You can read more about how to securely place your child in a car seat or booster at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

The previous law required booster seats up to age 5, so this may be a transition for some of your children (like my almost-7 year old). If you have kids that may not be looking forward to this new law, check out the Raising Arizona Kids article on Getting Reluctant Kids to Ride.

imageThe good news is that booster seats are not that expensive, and can save lives – plus, you can get a $50 ticket if your child is not in a booster seat starting August 2, so make sure you get one now. This Graco Backless TurboBooster Car Seat in Violet is just $14.50 right now. It comes in a variety of other colors, too, priced up to $29.99.

Amazon has a huge variety of different seats – styles, colors, brands – you name it. You can head over and check the Booster Seats available, too.

How to Get a FREE Booster Seat

UPDATE: If you missed the FREE Booster Seat on August 2nd at Phoenix Childrens Hospital you still have an opportunity to get a FREE Booster Seat.  This Saturday 8/4, Grand Canyon University will be giving away a FREE Booster Seat from 10 am to 2 pm – this is first come, first serve and supply is limited.  Grand Canyon will be giving these away at their Arena.

If you are a parent of a 4 to 8 year old, you can also stop by Phoenix Children’s Hospital on August 2, 2012 to get a FREE booster seat.

And you can find more Tucson resources at Desert Chica Ramblings.

You can see more about the importance of this law in this news story:

FOX 10 News – Phoenix, AZ | KSAZ-TV You can read the bill here. A summary from AZ Department of Health Services Here. And more resources on this new law and how it effects you at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
