Congratulations to #330 -Jennifer!

My health has always been important to me, but lately, I am trying to take a more active role in my health care by remaining active (starting a running program!), eating well, and staying up-to-date on annual exams. Part of the reason for this is because I just passed another birthday, but mainly, it is so I am here for my children.

Parents.com has a new “Live Smart” campaign to help parents stay committed to a healthy lifestyle. Many moms, like myself, want to stay active and healthy not only for themselves, but also for their children. Parents.com has partnered with Aetna to help moms get a better handle on their health AND health care costs.

If you are interested in learning more about your own health, making informed decisions, and how to drive down the costs of medical expenses, you’ll want to take a look at the Live Smart page. You can take the survey from Aetna to get access to several resources, like Fitting Exercise Into a Busy Schedule.

To help encourage wellness, Parents.com is giving away a Fall Into Health Wellness Package to 1 lucky Saving Cents with Sense Reader!

WIN IT

The Fall Into Health Wellness Package includes: a pedometer, a $200 Visa gift card, and an assortment of Yogi Tea!

This past year I have tried hard to commit to a healthier lifestyle. I lost 27 pounds, and have educated myself about the things that really make my body healthier. I do admit that I need to really exercise more. I want that to be my next goal!

My motivation for staying healthy are my 2 daughters who are 14 and 4. I was injured in a horse riding accident a few years back and fractured several of my L spine vertebre. I gained close to 100 lbs while on bed rest and although I have lost a few pounds here and there I really kicked it into high gear this past Spring and went walking almost everyday at the park. In just 3 months I was able to lose nearly 35 pounds and feel SO much better. Now that the colder months are here I hurt more and don’t get out as much so I’m trying a few in-home exercises and daily fish oil as well as a multi-vitamin. :) Hoping to lose another 35 by next Spring!!

I want to stay healthy so that I can be active for many more years. I don’t want to be hindered by my body! Also, I want to be able to do fun stuff with my daughter for a long time to come and I have to be healthy in order to do that.

My motivation for getting and staying healthy is my entire ‘life’. Everyone in my life, all of the things that I do, the things I have yet to do and the things that I don’t even know about yet. I want to be here and ready for IT ALL. :o)

I’m a Facebook fan & I find it important to stay as healthy as I possibly can because I suffer from an autoimmune disease called SLE-Lupus which is where my own immune system gets confused & attacks healthy tissues & organs. Because of this illness, I must take steroids often & anti-rejection drugs which raise my chances of infection & also causes me to gain unneeded weight which makes my joint pain even worse. Doing my part to stay healthy can reduce hospital visits & help make my flares more tolerable.

I quit smoking over a year ago, but put on weight and got seriously depressed. Working on the mental health now, when I feel a little better, then on to the physical health. Not being so tired all the time and fitting into my clothes will be the motivation.

Staying healthy is important for multiple reasons, the biggest being my 4 year old daughter. I want to set a good example so she doesn’t struggle with unneccessary health problems later in life. The second reason is I am an Internal Med Nurse Practitioner. I beleive in do as I do and NOT do as I say. It helps me relate to patients when I can say I know how hard it is but you can change your lifestyle for the better!

I also ‘like’ your page on FB. I recently joined a gym for the first time EVER (I’m 46:) We recently moved from South Texas to a colder climate and I realized pretty quickly that it was really easy to find excuses not to walk and exercise outside when it’s cold! Three of my kids are ‘out of the nest’ in college and married and with just one high schooler at home, and since I’m not carpooling kids around or cleaning up goldfish off the floor, it is easy to slip into the couch potato mode. I think this giveaway would be an awesome motivation not only to keep me headed on the right path, but to motivate my husband to join me!!

My motivation for staying healthy …I still struggle with this one. Most days it’s my desire to lead a healthier life, but there are days when I want to say screw it. Like everything else in life, it’s a lot easier to maintain your health than it is to regain it, and unfortunately I’m in the process of regaining mine.

My family and friends have been a really strong and supportive group, and they keep me on the straight and narrow when I’m feeling either sorry for myself, or overwhelmed by the enormity of the task ahead.
