Yes, that is right, in case you haven’t heard already, TLC is bringing Extreme Couponing back tonight with Season 2. And I’m really split over if this is a good thing or not. So, let’s weigh both sides -
Negative Side of Extreme Couponing
I asked my Facebook fans this morning if they would be watching tonight and the majority said “no”, but I encourage you to read their comments and see their reason.
Like many have mentioned, this show has really made those of us that use coupons pay consequences by changing store policies, promoting coupon fraud, and showing couponers as “hoarders”.
- Those that shop Kroger have seen a big impact with the end of doubles in part of the country (including Fry’s in Southern AZ).
- More and More people are involved in unethical practices such as stealing inserts (yes, that happens!) and coupon fraud, which is a Felony.
- And other questionable activities about as well, like shelf-clearing and hoarding. Who really needs 100+ tubes of toothpaste anyway?
Positive Side of Extreme Couponing
But (and that is a really big “big”), the positive side to this show is that it brings awareness to couponing and helps show some people that you really can save on your grocery bill by using coupons.
I also know that many people are using their couponing skills to help local charities, shelters, and others in need. To those that are, I applaud you!
For those of you that are new to Couponing, please know that Extreme Couponing (the TV show) is NOT reality. Realistically, you can save 50-60% off your grocery bill by using coupons.
