Have you checked out the new Market Place?  Do you have items lying around your house that you no longer need including but not limited to, clothes, kids toys, games or crafts that you may have been wanting to sell.  With great intentions, we usually set these items to the side for a future garage sale but as time gets by during our busy lives it is hard to organize and dedicate a full day to a garage sale.  So let the Market Place be your personal Community Garage sale reaching out to thousands of people nationwide.

We heard the feedback that many of you had items you want to sell, but that you wanted an easier, faster way to list your items. So we got together with smarketplaces, and now posting an item to our marketplace is as easy as taking a picture on your phone and emailing it to post@smarketplaces.com

Here’s how the mobile feature works:

1. Take a picture using your mobile phone

2. Use your phone to email the picture to post@smarketplaces.com. Put the name of your item in the Subject: line and a short description of the item in the body of the email.

3. In a minute or two check your email, you will receive an email with a link. Press on the link, it will open a mobile window that let’s you finish your post. Enter your price, select a category from the dropdown accept the terms & conditions, then press the “post” button! (Note: If you don’t already have an account with Smarketplaces you will first be asked to create a username and password to associate with your email.)

You’re done! It may take a second to load, but you should see a post confirmation page.

Here are detailed iPhone instructions in case you need help:

On to the Giveaway, in celebration of summer nearing an end, we would like to organize a Community Garage Sale in our new marketplace! We’re hoping that you can skip the set-up of tables and arranging of items (and even worse, the tear-down and re-packing of items that don’t sell) by listing your items in our marketplace and selling to our online community.

To kick off this event, for the next week, Smarketplaces will be sponsoring a $25 Cash Giveaway with an optional entry for each item posted in the marketplace (multiple items = multiple entries).

1) Leave me a comment letting me know your experience with the  Marketplace and any suggestions to make it easier to post, view, purchase, etc.

Optional Entries:  (You can do one or ALL of the following):

2. Post an item for sale on the Marketplace and then come back here and leave me a comment letting me know. (Feel free to tell us what you are selling, too).  Use the new Mobile Feature to make it easier to post items.

3. Click The Facebook “Like” Button above and share this giveaway on your Facebook Page and then come back here and leave me a comment.

4. Select an item from the Marketplace and click on the Facebook icon to share with your friends on Facebook and then come back and leave a comment.

Please make sure you leave a comment for each entry! This giveaway ends Sunday, September 4, 2011  at 11:59pm MST. The winner will be chosen using random.org.

Then starting on Tuesday, September 7th we will be actively promoting the garage sale to help you sell your stuff and make some money!

If you have suggestions for marketplace features or feedback on the selling & buying experience, please send your suggestions to hello@smarketplaces.com.

I would suggest that people could pay in other ways then with Paypal and that sellers could request other forms of payment and/or not accept Paypal. I personally do not like Paypal and refuse to use it. Did you know that if you accept Paypal as payment and if the credit/debit card turns out to be stolen you have to pay Paypal back? Even though you personally never saw the card nor was the one to verify it (Paypal does the verifying). This happened to me so I was out the items I sold and then had to pay Paypal back. So I paid for my items twice and yet no longer had the items since I had sold them and let the buyer use Paypal.

And yes, I did try and fight it (me and a whole bunch of people who got burned by the same person) but unfortunately I had to pay Paypal the money that had been paid to me. Not too mention that I got hit with this 6 months after the sale.

I would love to try Marketplace. It would be nice to have other payment options as Connie suggested.

I would like to try it. I never have, so I don’t know what could be better about it… Personally, I like PayPal as my primary payment form, but I do understand how a person could be dishonest. But, this could happen with or without PayPal, as a stolen credit card could be used without it.

I had some trouble registering, until I decided to register via FB, and then it went smoothly.

I posted Essential Homeschooling in the marketplace. I would love to sell some of my things without having to have a garage sale.

Truly like the marketplace. It was easy to browse. I would agree with other comments regarding adding other forms of payment. Other than that I think this is an awesome addition to your website. Thx for all you do for us couponers :-)

This looks very interesting – One thing I noticed that may be good (or bad?) is that certain items don’t end up under two categories. ie – There was a baby clothing item for sale, but it doesn’t show up under baby, just under kids clothing. This could be good so you’re not seeing 20+ of the same thing in multiple categories, but I might miss out on something by not looking either.
Wondering if there’s a ‘rating’ system too… so we know if sellers are true to their word/etc. once it all gets rolling!

You can add a new section ‘Movies’. We all have a stash of old movies that we would like to share.

  • Sonia

    Hi Thabal,
The movies category has been added — would love to see your movie stash!
