I have received several emails and comments asking about coupon stacking. What is it? And how do you use it to save at the grocery store?
First, it is important to point out that there are two different types of coupons:
- Manufacturer Coupons – These can be used at any store that takes coupons. These coupons are issued by the product manufacturer, who will reimburse the store.
- Store Coupons – These are coupons that are only valid at the store they are issued at. They will state “Target” or “Fry’s” on them.
And here is how you can stack coupons. Many stores that issue store coupons, will allow you to also use a manufacturer coupon on the same item. For example, you have a $.50/1 Walgreens Store Coupon and a $1/1 Manufacturer coupon. Walgreens will allow you to use BOTH coupons on that one item for a total of $1.50 off.
Don’t confuse this for allowing multiple manufacturer coupons – you can only use 1 manufacturer coupon per item at any store.
Where can you stack store coupons with manufacturer coupons? Target, Walgreens, Fry’s, Safeway, and CVS are a few that I know of. What about you? Where do you stack coupons? Have you had issues at the store doing this? Are some stores more “friendly” regarding this policy?
