For those of you that are nursing or plan to nurse your babies, the IRS has good news. Breastfeeding supplies are now tax deductible. Starting with expenses incurred in 2010, you can use pretax money from your flexible spending account to cover the cost of breast pumps and other supplies. And for those of you that itemize, you can add them to their health care costs.
This is great news for mothers that want to breastfeed, but have a hard time with the expense (especially working mothers who need to pump). Personally, I LOVE the Medela brand and have found it to be very beneficial.
Many hospitals allow mothers to rent breast pumps to help save on costs, too. However, if you are thinking of buying, you can always check out Amazon for a great sale – and remember to keep your receipt for your tax information.
