This tip may only work if your kids are older since little kids really enjoy opening (sometimes more than the actual gift!). But if your kids are old enough, try buying one family gift that everyone can enjoy instead of many smaller gifts. You’ll be surprised at how much this can save you.
Some ideas for bigger gifts include:
- A video game system. Wii is a fun system that has plenty of games for all ages.
- A TV, stereo, Blu-ray, or other high end electronic
- A family trip: You might want to travel to a fun location for Christmas, or save your Christmas money to go on a vacation later in the year.
You can still have some inexpensive little gifts in stockings for the kids (or yourself) along with with big gift. Or maybe instead of opening gifts, you can go out to eat at a favorite restaurant or see a movie at the theatre. There are plenty of possibilities to spend time together and enjoy the holiday without having to spend money on a bunch of gifts.
