Giveaway: Seventh Generation Laundry Products

Congratulations to winner #254 – Amy B.

My boys have extremely sensitive skin, so I have to be very careful with what laundry products I use. That is why I was very interested to hear that many laundry detergents contain little known chemicals called optical brighteners that according to scientific research can cause allergic reactions. These chemicals are toxic to some aquatic life, too, and can pollute our waterways.

When ultraviolet light hits optical brighteners coating your clothing, the brighteners convert UV rays into visible light to create an optical illusion. This tricks the eye into thinking the clothing is whiter and brighter, and therefore cleaner than it really is. Scary isn’t it?

I was asked to conduct an experiment to view these optical brighteners and although I couldn’t get a picture to turn out, I can tell you that the shirt that was washed in a conventional laundry detergent actually glowed when I put a black light over it. The shirt that I washed in Seventh Generation laundry detergent didn’t glow.

The good news is that Seventh Generation laundry products are not only free of optical brighteners, but they are also non-toxic. In addition, because Seventh Generation liquid laundry detergents are both hypo-allergenic and biodegradable. I’ve been washing our laundry with Seventh Generation laundry products for the past several weeks, and my boys haven’t had any allergic reactions to the products.

WIN IT!

Thanks to My Blog Spark & Seventh Generation, 1 lucky reader will win a set of Seventh Generation laundry products.

We do eat out occasionally and have the occasional “free” with coupons nabisco packaged cookies or packaged mixes that I bake. No sodas in the house. We dance together while we clean the house to a mix cd. I clean countertops with vinegar mixed with lemon juice and occasionally make my own homemade detergent. I wipe everything down with wet wipes and make sure everyone drinks lots of orange juice.

real simple. The best way I keep my family healthy at home is by washing our hands. If I don’t have a sink handy, I’ll use baby wipes if I have to. Especially after the grocery store or before meals. The best and easiest thing we can do!

For my family, I try to keep everything disinfected and sanitary. We try to each more organic and koshi foods, as well as drink water and juice. I try to keep them to the doctor for check ups and make sure they stay as healthy as possible :)
