help for haiti

Most of you have probably heard and seen the devastating news from Haiti. On January 12, a massive earthquake hit Haiti, killing thousands and leaving countless more without their basic needs: food, water, shelter, and family.

We would be very concerned about a quake of this magnitude anywhere in the world, but it is especially devastating in Haiti, where people are acutely vulnerable because of poor infrastructure and extreme poverty,” said Edward Brown, World Vision’s relief director in the United States.

Sometimes it is hard to picture how devastating an event like this is when we are so far removed from the situation. But the reality is that thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of people are in need and every bit that is given is a blessing.

Action is needed. We all have strengths, talents, resources, and blessings to give. Prayer. Donate. Volunteer. Whatever it is, no matter how small, it will help. If you are a blogger, blog about what you are going to do and get the word out. We need to let everyone know that help is needed.

What Can You Do?

1. Pray for the people of Haiti, for those that have lost loved ones, who are all alone and those that need hope.

2. Donate right now by leaving a direct link to your post about how you plan to help. I am pledging $1.00 for every link up. For those of you without a blog, leave a comment below and I am pledging $.50 for each comment for a total of $300.

3. Consider donating to some other organizations like:
Compassion International
Numana
American Red Cross (Text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10.00 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti right away)

This post is part of a link up to Money Saving Mom’s call to action. Please visit the other links below to see how others are helping and most importantly, decide out how you can help.

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don’t have to know Einstein’s theory of relativity to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love. ” -MLK

Keep up the work for Haiti- we can all do something to help!
