You may remember that Safeway sent me a $50 gift card and I challenged myself to see how much I could save. Well, thanks to their new everyday low prices, all coupons equaling $1, and the Home for the Holidays promotion, I was able to save 64%. Not bad considering I don’t have as much time to cut and organize coupon as I used to.
Actually, I spent about an hour prior to shopping to look over the ad, organize my coupons, and gather my list before heading out. This is a perfect example of how even a busy working mom can still save a lot of cash by spending a little extra time to prepare coupons. If you find yourself strapped for time (like most of us), but still want to save on your grocery bill, here are a few tips:
- Check your resources. I checked the Safeway deals for this week before heading.
- Print the coupons you need or want from Coupons.com, RedPlum, and Smartsource.
- Add eCoupons to your club card. (Shortcuts.com and Cellfire)
- Plan your shopping trip. Make a list (or print the Safeway Deals post) so you know what you want to get. It will help keep down the impulse buying.
- Calculate your spending as you go. Take a calculator or use your phone as you shop so you know what you are spending.
I really could have saved a bit more had I split up my transaction, but I ended up spending $43.68 and saving $77.92 (64% savings!). So, how would you like a chance to see how much you could save? Enter to win 1 of 3 $50 Safeway gift cards (hurry, ends 11/12!)
