If you followed my tweets today, you probably saw that I was unexpectedly sent to the emergency room with my 15 month old today. I took him into the doctor’s office this morning because he was wheezing (and I thought he may have a ear infection). Unfortunately, my whole family has been fighting a cold for the past few days…but for my youngest son, it took a toil on his respiratory system.
This whole day has been extremely long – from sitting in the doctor’s office for 2.5 hours as they ran tests, administered breathing treatments, and checked him over, to the 1 hour wait in the Emergency room waiting area, to the 4 hour in triage (with more tests, breathing treatments, and x-rays), to finally getting a room in the pediatrics unit- it was a long day.
Honestly, this felt like déjà vu in some ways since this same thing happened last February when he was only 9 months. I kept telling myself that he wouldn’t get as bad, but the truth is that I don’t have control over that. All I can do is hold him and comfort him as the doctors and nurses do what they can.
I have been overwhelmed by the sympathetic tweets from many of you and want to thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It can be very lonely sitting in a room full of people lost in their own emergencies. I took solace in knowing so many people were praying for us. I know so many of you have experienced similar situations, or faced other illnesses with your children and my heart breaks for any parent that has to deal with these situations.
I’m hoping he will be released tomorrow, but if you do not see as many updates from me, you’ll know that I didn’t just disappear.
