It’s been 2 weeks since the last update on the “Killer Cucumber” and although the cucumber plant has almost doubled in size AGAIN, we finally have cucumbers! The biggest one is a good 10-12 inches, too!
The cucumber plant wasn’t the only thing to double, though. I think the whole garden doubled! It is hard to even distinguish the different plants in this picture! The bottom row is our cherry tomatoes and basil, which are starting to grow on top of each other.
Improvise
You’ll probably notice, too, that we had to create an impromptu “cage” for the cucumber (top left). My hubby created a frugal trellis out of rods, string, and
yes, that is part of a tiki torch in the center. :) It has worked wonders at helping the plant grow up off the ground (important to help cucumbers healthy) and away from the other plants.
Besides the 2 very large cucumbers that are growing, we have at least a dozen small to medium sized cukes that are growing. I’m excited to pick them and hopefully will be able to make my favorite cucumber salad! (I’ll share the recipe when I make it!)
Jalapeno Poppers
Have you tried poppers? Jalapenos stuffed with cheese, breaded and fried? Yea, they are very good! This past weekend I picked 10 fresh jalapenos from the garden, and searched the internet for the perfect healthier poppers. After a few suggestions, I finally made my own recipe, which I plan to post for you all later! They were delicious- so good, that I forgot to take a picture when they came out of the oven! But, as you can see from this picture, there are several more growing and I’ll get a picture next time!
I also plan on making homemade pesto from our basil, which is growing like a weed! We have been adding it to our homemade spagetti sauce, pizza, and salads, but I’ll be able to freeze the pesto for future use.
Here’s a few more pictures of our produce:
