As the Garden Grows

IMG_4985 I’m still so shocked at how well our little garden is doing. What amazes me the most is how much our “little” cucumber plant has grown. When we bought it, it was the smallest plant with only 2 little leaves. I wish I had taken a picture. I was a bit skeptical that cucumbers could actually come from this tiny plant.

Now, I suddenly realize that this plant had a hidden secret- it seems to double in size each day! The “little” plant next to the cucumber above is actually our yellow bell pepper, which used to be at least 3 times bigger than the cucumber and is now on the verge of being taken over by the cucumber plant.

IMG_4987 The whole garden is doing well. We planted basil and have two new green bell peppers that are growing. We made our first homemade pizza with fresh basil and I don’t think I can go back!

The Serrano peppers have not sprouted yet, but our strawberries continue to give us sweet fruit! My 3 year old is also excited to see how much his flowers have grown (see below). They have not produced flowers yet, but continue to thrive in their pot.

I found some great advice from The Thrifty Mama on how to combat pests in an all natural way. Check out her post if you any unwanted pests eating at your garden.

How is your gardening going? What is growing for you and what isn’t?

  • Wow! Your cucumber plant looks really healthy! Mine is finally starting to look good but I wasn’t so sure at first either. It’s amazing to see how far along people’s gardens are depending on where they live. Yours looks great.
